Old Town Alexandria

Last week my friend Geff asked if I wanted to do some shooting in Old Town Alexandria, a photowalk of sorts.  Unlike a regular photowalk, this would be just the two of us, rather than 50!  The trick would be that everything was shot in B&W — no post processing to change color to B&W (though I did post process for levels, contrast, etc — just no color->B&W conversion).  Sounded like a lot of fun, so we started out at 7am and walked around for about 3 hours taking photos of everything we could find.  We photographed windows, old buildings, yard ornaments/decorations, etc.  The result of those shots can be found in my gallery as well as on Flickr.  If there are any shots on Flickr that you’d like a print of that didn’t make it into the gallery, please send me an email!

I love that you both chose to shoot everything in black and white and not post-process. Very cool idea. I may have to try that on my own one day. :)

Great shots! Very interesting that you have figured out what shots work in b&w on site rather than experimenting later in post-processing. Did you find yourself drawn toward shooting different things than you would normally, because of the b&w decision?

    Kim,
There was post-processing (curves, contrast, etc.), just not color->BW conversion. I modified the post to reflect that :-)
    Thanks!
