Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]> Finally got my lightstands from B&H, complete with 45″ white reflective (and convertible to shoot-through) umbrellas, so tested them out in the basement with a black backdrop.  Since nobody was around, I did some self-portraits.  Using only a single flash (Nikon SB-600), my [receding] hairline blended into the background, so I tried putting my hands on top of my head.  Turns out that was my favorite shot!  Not exactly “glamour” (ha!), but a few tweaks in Lightroom and here is what we have.

Flash was to camera right, about 45º from me.  SB-600 was fired at full power (1/1), wirelessly with Nikon CLS, into a 45″ umbrella, raised slightly over my head.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]> Wanted to try my hand at manual exposure and was a bit bored with some of the other subjects around Vienna so figured I’d go to the next boring option: myself ;-) Found some places with good color and interest and started there.  For the first shot, the sun was too high in the sky so there’s some harsh lighting and shadow but I guess that’s what post-processing is for!  All shots processed in Capture NX2 with Color Efex Pro.

A few weeks ago I took a shot in Vienna down by the caboose using a bunch of different settings. This time I got a couple that were decent but I’ve still got some practice to do.
