Had a chance to photograph this family recently during a photo get-together.  If you remember my post about Mr O a couple weeks back, this great couple showed up as well to be photographed by my friend Andrea, who graciously allowed others to shoot them as well.  These are my favorites from the day!  They were fantastic to work with, and a lot of fun.  Even with a bunch of lenses pointed at them,... 

I met Mr O at a recent photo get together at Manassas Battlefield Park.  There were several kids there, and O was always right there to be photographed.  I think you’ll agree he’s a real cutie with a huge smile — and his personality was just as big!  We were there to practice shooting with off-camera flash as well as the extreme backlighting from the sunset, and Mr O’s shots... 

A little while back I heard about Help-Portrait, a way to give back to the community using our talents as photographers. I sat on it for a while and eventually signed up after seeing the video below. Everyday I’m thankful for the things I have, the people around me, my job, my health, etc. But with the holidays approaching we’re reminded that there are those who are less fortunate,... 

A few months ago, my wife and I found out we were having a baby boy in January Since I enjoy taking portraits, I wanted to get some of her now, and we’d take more throughout her pregnancy to chronicle the changes she experienced as she moved farther along in her term. It takes her a bit to get warmed up to a camera, but she was a great sport once we got going. These were taken in the City of... 

Finally got my lightstands from B&H, complete with 45″ white reflective (and convertible to shoot-through) umbrellas, so tested them out in the basement with a black backdrop.  Since nobody was around, I did some self-portraits.  Using only a single flash (Nikon SB-600), my [receding] hairline blended into the background, so I tried putting my hands on top of my head.  Turns out that was... 

Late last year my wife and I went to Harrisonburg, VA to stay at a bed and breakfast and just “get away” for a while without going too far.  The place we stayed at had this great cat that lived there — he greeted us when we got there pretty much, and hung out with us the entire time, probably from all the lovin’ he got from us (we pet him constantly while sitting on the porch!) ... 

In late June, I had the opportunity to photograph my nieces — something I had been wanting to do for a while.  It was a good learning experience for me as they each reacted to the camera differently.  In all I think the pictures turned out well, and are a good building block for future shoots.  The trick was to try to get them both to smile at the same time and look in the same direction!
